Robins appoint new manager as Nash arrives from Whitley Bay

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

MANAGER Marc Nash has left his position at Northern League Division One club Whitley Bay to move to North Shields. Nash replaces Brian Smith as Robins manager after he left the club on Monday - he will be joined by two members of his backroom staff, with assistant manager Anthony Woodhouse and coach Chris Moore also moving to the Daren Persson Stadium.

Current Robins’ assistant manager Gary Ormston has stepped down but will stay with the club as a player.

However, North Shields have confirmed three members of their backroom staff have departed in the wake of Nash’s appointment.

A club statement read: “Marc Nash was today appointed as the new manager of North Shields FC. Marc replaces manager Brian Smith, who resigned from his position.

“Andy Gowans, Wilf Keilty and Bob Scott also have left their positions.”

Robins’ chairman Alan Matthews added: “We are delighted to make these appointments. All three have a wealth of experience and are aware of our hopes for the future of the club. I would like to personally extend a warm welcome to all of them.”

Nash leaves Whitley Bay with the club lying in seventh place in Northern League Division One and will take charge of North Shields for the first time when they host Jarrow Roofing on Saturday.

There was another managerial change in Division One, leaders Morpeth Town announcing jointmanager Dave Malone will leave the club at the end of the season - he cited work and family commitments for the reasons behind his decision.
