Hornets are buzzing around Black Cats’ young goal hero

-

WATFORD are believed to be monitoring Joel Asoro’s progress at Sunderland with a view to a summer move for the Swedish striker, writes JAMES HUNTER.

The Hornets have joined the likes of Paris St Germain and Arsenal in keeping close tabs on the youngster.

Asoro, 18, scored the first goal in Saturday’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light and has been one of the few positives for Black Cats boss Chris Coleman since the turn of the year.

He scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Hull City in January and set up the equaliser on that famous day at Ashton Gate when Sunderland came back from 3-0 down to draw with Bristol City.

Sunderland would love to hold on to talented youngsters such as Asoro - but their perilous financial situation means they would have to consider any substantial bids for players in the summer.

If they are relegated to League One, there will be plenty of clubs ready to make their move for their raft of talented youngsters.

Asoro is not one of the club’s biggest wage earners by a distance but seems certain to have a big future in the game after making the step up to first-team football this season.

He has only scored twice for the Black Cats but has 14 goals in 21 appearances for Sweden Under-17s nd has also notched at Under-21 level.
