Nash off to a winning start with Robins

MARC Nash enjoyed a dream start to his spell as North Shields manager as they turned a 5-2 halftime deficit into a 6-5 win against Jarrow Roofing.

The Robins looked set to fall to a demoralisi­ng defeat but secondhalf braces from Gareth Bainbridge and Dean Holmes helped Nash’s new side to a remarkable win.

Consett old boy Josh Scott scored twice as Newcastle Benfield followed up their fine win at Morpeth Town in midweek with a 4-0 win against the Steelmen.

Morpeth Town recovered from that Benfield defeat with a 3-1 victory at Bishop Auckland.

Sean Taylor was the star man for the league leaders, scoring twice and setting up their other goal for former Sunderland striker Stephen Elliott.

Nathan Fisher grabbed both goals in West Auckland Town’s 2-0 success at Dunston UTS and Adam Burnicle achieved the same feat as Shildon triumphed 3-1 at home against ten-man Penrith.

Joe Ferguson was Guisboroug­h Town’s match-winner as his late counter gave them a 2-1 home verdict against in-form Team Northumbri­a and James Ellis’ hat-trick helped Ryhope CW to a 3-2 result against Newton Aycliffe.

Kyle Downey celebrated bringing up a double-century of Ashington appearance­s with a goal in their thrilling 4-3 win at struggling Washington.

In Division Two, Alnwick Town gave their survival hopes a big boost after they managed to beat promotion-chasing Heaton Stanningto­n.

Liam Wotherspoo­n opened the scoring for the hosts on 35 minutes.

However, Alnwick drew level five minutes later when Tony Brown slotted a penalty home.

Darren Riddell handed the visitors the lead three minutes after half-time and the Stan were reduced to 10 men late in the game when Jon Wright was sent off.

Chris Dickinson bagged a brace as Northaller­ton Town remained top of Division Two after a 3-1 victory over Chester-le-Street Town.

Whickham scored a 97th -minute winner to complete a stunning second-half comeback as they beat Durham City 3-2.

Liam Gillesphey came to Blyth AFC’s rescue five minutes from time as they remained unbeaten in 2018 after a 1-0 trumph over Darlington RA.
