Getting tickets a tricky business

-

I SEE that Mr Casey’s reply to my letter has nothing to do with his obvious dislike of President Trump but rather more to do with his dislike of the American nation.

His observations that they have been an aggressive nation beggars belief – after all he is living in a country that has attacked, asset-stripped and enslaved the greater part of the known world in its quest for the British Empire. He should also be aware of the amount of nationalities that make up the USA. We did it all on our own.

He goes on to imply that the USA on its own invaded Iraq and Libya. Again, a selective memory, as it was Tony Blair and the UK who were the main antagonists, and what a legacy he has left.

And to finish, the “choirboy” Kim Jong Un has only started to make tentative friendly gestures towards South Korea after looking at the consequences of his warmongering.

I believe that we should have taken the same stance in the 1930s against Hitler... MY joys my tears, My hopes my fears. The past the present, Things sad things pleasant. The cruel, the kind, What springs to mind. The that the this, The things I miss. The moon, the sun, Sad times and fun. Friends who have passed, The bairns, wor lass. My team’s comeback, although that was probably America’s fault as well? CHS I READ with interest the article in the Chronicle about the 1953 quarter final of the FA Cup.

I remember my mum telling me that she went to try and get a ticket for my dad. The tickets were on sale at Gateshead Town Hall on High West Street. She was at the front of the queue when the people behind started to surge forward and she got squashed against the iron gates.

She was seven months pregnant at the time so a policeman had to rescue her.

She didn’t get a ticket but I was born in April 1953 so hopefully that made up for my dad’s disappointment at not being able to attend the match!
