JEWELLERY worn by royal bride-to-be Meghan Markle was designed on Tyneside.

A North East company has seen its sales soar after Prince Harry’s fiancee was spotted wearing one of the company’s earrings.

The American actress wore a silver earring designed by North Shields business Tutti & Co during a visit to Cardiff.

Despite being worn by the future member of the Royal family, the Alya earrings cost only £49.99. The affordable price and added publicity led to a flurry of extra sales for the North East designer.

Kate Rose, founder and managing director of Tutti & Co, said: “The earrings sold out within 15 minutes online with House of Fraser.

“It created lots of social media excitement, led to an increase in social media following, as well as interest from high-end retailers interested in stocking the collection.

“It was a real positive boost to the launch of the Spring-Summer ‘18 collection. We have recently introduced a full brand refresh, and it really elevated the launch.

“It also created an influx of orders into the constellation collection, as the earrings form part of a wider range.” The climber Alya earring comes in a star design and was worn by Ms Markle in one ear. She wore a simple geometric stud in the other. The Alya earrings are sold online at Tutti & Co, but can also be bought at House of Fraser and Fenwicks. The company also stocks a gold version of the earrings. Ms Rose founded the company after completing a fashion and marketing degree at Northumbria University. And after struggling to find a creative job she liked in the region, she opted instead to set up her own fashion and jewellery business. Despite launching her business in the midst of the economic recession, Tutti & Co managed to flourish as customers decided to spend more on accessories rather than fully changing their outfits. Since its launch, Tutti & Co has grown considerably and now supplies more than 100 retail outlets across Britain. The company is looking to continue its growth and expand its international sales over the next year. Ms Rose added: “We have really exciting growth plans over the next 12 months. “We plan to roll out concessions in leading department stores, within in the UK and Europe, and focus on international business and our online store.”
