The Chronicle

A token of our appreciation

-

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who saved Chronicle Wish tokens for us this year.

We were thrilled to achieve third place in this year’s campaign and delighted with our cheque for £1,005.50p

This a tremendous help to us in our work with the children. Also a big thank you to the Chronicle for making it all possible each year.

BILL COOKSON, tokens co-ordinator,

disabled children charity HCPT Group 41 TOMMY and his dad stood at the railway station Both were not sure of their destination For the doctor said he wasn’t very well With his symptoms it was difficult to tell For he had no rash, he felt no pain It was a mystery, difficult to explain So he recommended a place a bit like a hotel They had tried everything so they thought They might as well When they arrived dad said “you’ll be staying Here for a while” - so he said goodbye with A wave and a smile Now back in those days - mental illness Meant lengthy stays And so it was when mam and dad died Where to house him they couldn’t decide But they gave Tommy every chance for life In a better way Then they found him somewhere else to stay Then came the 1959 Mental Health Act The doctor said today is the time to go So get your bags packed Now you have a place you can call your home You won’t be left on your own It will be a place you can spend your time We all agree you will be just fine.
