GOSFORTH Academy’s quest to win the National Cup was delayed this week when their Premier League Under 16 Schools’ Cup quarter-final against Westfield was postponed.

They will now travel to Sheffield on Thursday.

The winners will visit either Shenley Brook End from Milton Keynes or Calday Grange Grammar from the Wirral.

Gosforth’s coach, Jonny Howard, said: “We know all about Westfield because they put us out on penalties last season.

“They are very strong defensivel­y but we hope to breach their defence this time round. We travel with a lot of confidence.” ■■CARDINAL Hume’s game against Broadgreen Internatio­nal School from Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the ESFA Under 13 PlayStatio­n Schools Cup was also called off this week.

The winners will play either Thomas Telford or Malcolm Arnold Academy from Northampto­n. ■■CHANTRY beat Whitworth from Rochdale 5-2 in the quarterfin­als of the ESFA Under-12 PlayStatio­n Small Schools Cup.

They now face a home tie against Wolverhamp­ton Grammar School. ■■AFTER their penalty victory over Our Lady’s of Manchester, Newminster face a trip to Blacon Hill from Chester or South Nottingham­shire Academy in the ESFA Under-13 PlayStatio­n Small Schools Trophy. ■■NEWCASTLE School for Boys are still going strongly in the ESFA Under-15 PlayStatio­n Small Schools’ Trophy.

They beat Winterton from Scunthorpe in the last eight with strikes from Munir and Harper.

They face Oldham Hulme Grammar School in the semis. ■■CRAMLINGTO­N Learning Village are still waiting to play their semi-final in the Premier League Schools Cup for under-16 girls.

They don’t know if they are playing at home to Sandbach or Meole Brace from Scunthorpe. ■■EAST Northumber­land are looking to emulate Newcastle in the ESFA Under-13 Playstatio­n Inter-Associatio­n Trophy.

Newcastle are the holders from last season and East knocked them out of this season’s competitio­n before overcoming Tameside 6-0 with goals from Johnstone (2), Borley (2), McConnell and Williams in the quarter-finals.

They now face a home tie to Liverpool in the semi-finals, which is set to be played on Tuesday, March 20, at a venue yet to be decided.
