Fresh florals...
KATIE WRIGHT SHOWS YOU HOW TO WEAR FLOWER-POWERED PRINTS, WHATEVER THE WEATHER
AS THE country attempts to return to normal after some of the coldest and most treacherous weather in a generation, spring feels a long way off.
The season officially starts on March 20 but the ‘Beast from the East’ and Storm Emma have had us clinging on to our jumpers and coats.
If you’re looking for an easy way to wake up your wardrobe while we wait for temperatures to rise, we might have the answer: florals.
Gone are the days when flowery motifs were limited only to warmer months and floaty frocks; now we’re seeing sporty shapes and statement separates emblazoned with bold petal prints, making them the ideal transitional pieces.
Here are four blooming lovely ways to wear winter florals right now...
1 FLORAL KNITWEAR
AS SEEN on the catwalks at Prada and Christopher Kane, vintage-style knitwear is back this season, and it’s the perfect way to bring a hint of blossom while keeping cosy. Look for Fifties-inspired fine knits with floral embroidery or puff-sleeved Eighties jumpers – if it looks like your granny might have knitted it, you’re on the right track.
2 FLORAL BLOUSES
WINTER florals don’t always have to be dark. Blouses in cool pastel shades, like lavender and mint, are equally at home with acid wash or black denim. If you’re loving the return of flares (us too), a Seventiesesque wrap shirt with flute sleeves and a painterly floral print is a must.
3 SPORTY FLORALS
IF CHINTZY petals and ruffles are a bit too ‘girly-girl’ for you, the athleisure-meet sazaleas trend will be right up your street. We’re talking sweatshirts, grey marl tees, trainers and even raincoats. With added flower power in the form of subtle embroidery or realistic botanical prints, these sleek pieces are easy to team with your favourite track pants and trainers.
4 PYJAMA SHIRTS
THE silk pyjama-style shirt trend gets a pretty petal-powered makeover this season, giving it a cool retro feel. Dress up your slouchy shirt by teaming it with a mannish trouser suit, or keep it casual with boyfriend jeans and brogues.
