Zylko strike seals a victory for the Uni

NEWCASTLE University took advantage of inactivity elsewhere in the Premier Division and hosted Ashington Colliers, winning 2-1.

Matthew Konadou-Yiadom gave the hosts the lead after just 18 minutes and, although Lee Scott levelled on the stroke of half-time, Conrad Zylko popped up with what proved to be the winner 15 minutes from time.

Shankhouse drew 1-1 at Gateshead A, Johnson cancelling out O’Donnell’s goal for the home side, and Newbiggin prevailed 4-2 at North Shields Athletic.

Division One leaders Newcastle Chemfica travelled to basement side Cramlingto­n Town, racking up a comfortabl­e 9-1 victory.

Josh Grice and Fergus Lynch bagged braces alongside goals from Jozef Mazela, Andrew Hall, Callum Webb, Alex McKitteric­k and Jordan Robson.

Chemfica raced into a five-goal interval lead, Paul Middleton notching a consolatio­n on the hour.

Hazlerigg Victory, currently second, welcomed second-bottom Monkseaton - enhancing their title chance with an emphatic 8-0 success.

Martin Soulsby bagged three, doubles came from Richard Coulson and Rees Farndell and Mitchell Ramsay also notched for added measure.

In Division Two, second-placed Prudhoe Youth Club Seniors hosted mid-table Coundon and Leeholme, triumphing 7-0 .

The counters came from Adam Greenwood, Danny Driver and Luke Banks in the opening ten minutes, David Burns and a Matty Robinson brace either side of the break and one for Sam Mannion.

Bedlington welcomed Wideopen, the two sides sharing six goals.

Joe Moscrop’s hat-trick, his first finish cancelling out Scott Flynn’s opener for the visitors, was cancelled out by a Harry Johnson penalty and, with three minutes reaming, a Stephen Spence equaliser.

In the only other game to beat the wet weather, Whitburn Athletic took on Blyth Town.

Visitors Town took a two-goal lead into the break with strikes from Dan Taylor on 29 minutes and Jak Ditchburn just before half-time while Whitburn notched through Alex Chapman four minutes after the restart.
