CHARLTON BROTHER AIMING FOR ENGLAND CAP TOO

Reporter HIS brothers are World Cup winners, and now Tommy Charlton hopes to earn his first England cap at the age of 71.

A younger sibling to Sir Bobby and Jack, Tommy aims to be part of the national over 60s walking football team.

Newcastle United hero Jackie Milburn is also his mother’s cousin. That is some footballin­g pedigree.

Former NUFC and Sunderland full back Alan Kennedy, now 63, also took part.

Tommy said: “They [Bobby and Jack] did so much that I was very proud of. Wouldn’t it be lovely if I could do just one little thing that they would be proud of me?”

The Charlton brothers were raised in Ashington, Northumber­land. Sir Bobby and Jack were both part of England’s 1966 World Cup winning squad.

Tommy’s playing career had been cut short by a knee injury he suffered at 23.

A grandfathe­r-of-six, he now turns out for The Mature Millers walking football club in Rotherham.

The Walking Football Associatio­n has scheduled the first ever walking football internatio­nal match for May or June this year.

Tommy said: “I’ve always played football at the drop of a hat. It was part of my life.

“I broke my knee cap when I was 23 and I didn’t play for an awfully long time.
