A last-gasp shocker for lowly Town

AN injury-time goal condemned Chester-le-Street Town to a fifth successive league defeat as they lost 2-1 at Bolton Wanderers.

The visitors fell behind when Ruby Howard gave the hosts the lead after 28 minutes.

Town continually searched for a equaliser as the hosts withstood heavy pressure.

The deserved equaliser finally came with eight minutes left, Nichole Havery finding the target for her seventh goal of the season.

Then came the killer blow in the third minute of injury time when the home side was awarded a penalty.

Town goalkeeper Robyn Parker saved the initial shot, fingertipping the ball on to the post but only back into the path of Bethany Worth, who scored from the rebound.

The result was further compounded after bottom side Mossley Hill won, moving them level on points with the Durham side with a game in hand.

Newcastle United had a wasted trip to Halifax, their match against the 2016 NERWFL champions Brighouse Town postponed shortly before kick-off.

It keeps the Lady Mags in a tight bottom six, the relegationthreatened teams now separated by only four points.

Both sides look forward to home matches on Sunday, the Lady Mags hosting Bolton Wanderers while Chester-leStreet Town welcome fourthplaced Morecambe.
