Pitch is a concern for Blyth side desperate for a return to action

BLYTH Spartans are keeping one eye on the weather as they look to return to action against lowly Curzon Ashton tomorrow.

With the rain returning, it is a race against time to get the Croft Park pitch up to speed.

If the game does go ahead, conditions will be heavy as Blyth look to blow away the cobwebs of a three-week lay-off.

Manager Alun Armstrong is keen to get the wheels of promotion turning again after a string of postponements.

Armstrong told the Chronicle: “The weather is a concern. We are desperate to get back into action and have not been able to train properly for a while.

“Curzon Ashton are fighting to stay in the division and will come here scrapping for their lives, so it will not be an easy game by any means.

“We won 3-0 at their place. It was a tougher game than the score suggests but we just want to play football again.

“Curzon have been up and down and concede a fair amount of goals and it is important we complete another double after the defeat at Leamington.”

Armstrong is hoping to strengthen his side for the run-in but has a strong squad to select from against the Nash.

Top scorer Dan Maguire is on England C duty in midweek and if tomorrow’s game is off Blyth wil not play until next weekend at bottom club North Ferriby.

Blyth have extended the loan spell of striker Macaulay Langstaff but fellow Gateshead loanee Kieran Green’s loan spell is nearing completion.
