A late strike proves killer blow for Met

TYNEMET Under-17s lost out to the only goal of the game five minutes from time in an entertaini­ng game at Hartlepool Sixth Form.

Pool have been in good form this season and this was always going to be a tough test for a TyneMet squad containing 14 first-year students.

The game was an even affair with both sides having chances in a wet and windy first half.

TyneMet goalkeeper Liam Renwick had to be alive to tip over a snap shot from 15 yards out and following that Thomas Kalthober defended heroically at the back post to deny his man a shot at goal.

TyneMet created chances good neat interplay involving Joe Kelly and Thomas Kalthober finding Lewis Misher in space behind the opposition back line but his touch let him down and the danger was cleared.

Paul Van Zindvliet was presented with the best chance of the half when a poor goalkeepin­g clearance left him stranded in no man’s land - but Zindvliet opted to pass to a teammate and the danger was gone.

The second half continued in the same vein, TyneMet looking to play their football and pass their way through an organised and experience­d Hartlepool side.

Joe Kelly brought out an excellent full-length diving save from the home goalkeeper after beating his man and whipping in a low, dipping shot which was headed for the bottom corner.

Just five minutes from time, TyneMet were caught on the counter.

A blistering run down the left flank brought a cross into the box which was dispatched at the back post to give the Pool their victory.
