Teams face their final countdown

THE first of the Newcastle Schools’ 2018 City Cup finals will be staged next week.

The Under-11 Bob Maddison City Cup decider is on Monday at the Newcastle United Academy in Benton (4.00).

Finalists Gosforth Junior Academy and Royal Grammar had to come through difficult semi-finals.

Gosforth just overcame English Martyr’s 4-3 while Royal Grammar edged out Gosforth Central 3-2.

Royal Grammar coach Jim Pollock will select from: William Jones, Rory Linkleter, Patrick Magill, Alexander Searro, Drew Taylor, Luke Wintrip, Varnu Boora, Ayaan Ahmad, Sam Wardle, Zuhair Abdullah, Phil Lumsden and Rob Hobson.

Gosforth will choose from: Shay Underwood, Chloe Paxton, Freddie McGregor, Charlie Dewar, Frazer Forrest, Matthew Todd, Harry Millington, Max Campbell, Thomas O’Hagan, Luke Bright and Dan Murphy.

It is the turn of the under-12’s on Tuesday night when Royal Grammar take on either Gosforth Central or Walker at Stotts Road, Walker (4.15).

Both the under-13 and under-15 girls’ finals are on Thursday at Walker School.

The under-13s kicks off at 4.00 and the under-15 showdown between Gosforth and Newcastle High School for Girls is at 4.45.

This is the first year Newcastle High School for Girls have entered the competitio­n and they have done really well to reach the final.

Coach Delia Hefford said: “It is great the girls have reached the final in their very first year and hopefully they will enjoy the experience.”

Hefford will choose from: Fay Scott, Molli James, Sam Rocks, Jessie Ridley, Esme Poore, Lois Daniel Black, Melie Trainor, Anna Parkinson, Niamh Sykes and Gemma Lant. ■■NEWCASTLE Under-13 Girls play their second County League match on Tuesday when they face East Northumber­land B at Gosforth Academy (4.30).
