Restaurant closure was ‘hard decision’

-

A “FINE DINING” restaurant has closed down.

Stephen and Helen Hardy said the closure of Restaurant DH1 in Durham City was due to “circumstances beyond our control”.

Located on The Avenue, the restaurant is on the lower floor of the historic Farnley Tower and opened in March 2014.

It was included in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015. In a letter posted to the company’s website, the couple said it was with “much sadness and a heavy heart” that they have had to shut the establishment.

It adds: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the support that you have given us over the past four years.

“We’d also like to thank our wonderfully loyal staff who have always given their best to the business (a lot of whom have been with us since day one!)

“We couldn’t have done it without any of you.

“Both myself (Helen) and Stephen have enjoyed the wonderful journey and we’re incredibly sad that it has come to an end. Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to make the hardest decision possible.”

Restaurant DH1 branded itself as offering “fine dining at an affordable price, in cosy, friendly surroundings”.

Mr and Mrs Hardy said they hope to offer another experience in the future.
