Charity faces ‘full review’ of its services

-

A CHARITY is facing a “full review of services” amid claims of financial trouble.

Age UK Newcastle provides support to elderly people in the city, helping people with everything from 24-hour personal care to bereavement support and an advice helpline.

However, the charity has now confirmed that it has been forced to conduct a review of what it can provide.

A source told the Chronicle that the organisation had gone as far as to contact administrators.

If parts of the charity were forced to close, the source feared it would leave “vulnerable, elderly people in Newcastle without access to advice, support and many other services which the charity has been offering”.

A spokesperson for Age UK Newcastle said: “We are exploring Age UK Newcastle’s options including a full review of our services.

“We expect this to be concluded over the next week, however at this stage of the process we cannot comment any further on potential outcomes or decisions.

“Our number one priority remains to support older people in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and we will be looking at the best way to achieve this locally.

“If older people and their friends and family in the local area need information and advice they can contact Age UK on 0800 169 6565.”
