Noveltea is gin-novative

- BY BARBARA HODGSON

GEORDIE-INSPIRED alcoholic brew Noveltea has been picked by John Lewis as its gin brand of the month – and punters are being offered a taste.

The drink, a mix of cold-brewed tea infused with spirit, is created by former Newcastle University students Vincent Efferoth and Lukas Passia.

The pair, both German nationals, were inspired by their taste of North East culture to mix local favourite Earl Grey tea with gin.

And in addition to the resulting brew – The Tale of Earl Grey, which is coldbrewed tea infused in gin – they also created The Tale of Tangier which also uses a cold-brew tea but which this time is infused in rum and given an more exotic edge of spice.

The new alcoholic drinks proved an immediate hit and Fenwick in Newcastle became the first department store stockists last summer.

Now John Lewis has followed suit, proving so impressed with it now stocks Noveltea in all of its stores, having extended the range from an initial 18 stores.

And it has picked The Tale of Earl Grey to be its “gin brand of the month” this March.

That means its customers have the chance to sample the delights of the tipple – billed as a refreshing twist on a G&T – at special tasting events.

These will be hosted by Noveltea, in collaboration with John Lewis, at the Newcastle department store from noon until 4pm on Friday, March 23; Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31.
