REVEALED: THE HAPPIEST IMMIGRANTS IN THE UK
IMMIGRANTS from Mexico, Norway and Denmark are the happiest and least anxious in the UK, new figures have shown.
The Office for National Statistics asked immigrants who have settled here from 92 countries around the world a number of questions about their wellbeing.
Respondents ranked their life satisfaction, happiness, sense of things being worthwhile, and anxiety levels between 0 to 10.
Immigrants from Norway had a life satisfaction rating of 8.4 - the highest of all.
They were closely ahead of people from Denmark (8.3) and Mexico (8.2).
All three were significantly higher than the average for all people in the UK, which stood at 7.7.
The least satisfied immigrants were from the Democratic Republic of Congo, at just 6.7. Iranians living in the UK were only slightly more satisfied with life, at 6.8.
Participants were also asked to consider how worthwhile they felt things they did in their lives were.
Immigrant s from Mexico ranked highest on average, with 8.5.
Those from Libya and the Philippines were joint second with a score of 8.4, slightly ahead of Denmark (8.3) and Saudi Arabia (8.2). All were ahead of the average for all people in the UK, which stood at 7.9. Aga in , migrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo were bottom of the list with a score of 7.1. In terms of overall happiness, Mexicans living in the UK topped the list with a score of 8.3, ahead of Filipinos with 8.2.
Those from Norway and Eritrea scored 8.1 - making both far happier than the UK average of 7.5
Ethiopian immigrants were the unhappiest, with an average happiness score of 6.9.
Finally, immigrants asked how anxious they felt out of 10, with a lower the score representing less anxiety. Danes in the UK were the least anxious, at just 1.9, followed by Lithuanians (2.1). People from Barbados, Norway and Ukraine also had low levels of anxiety. Despite being the happiest migrants, Mexicans were also some of the most anxious. A long with Syrians, they had anxiety levels of 3.8. The UK average was 2.9.
