MARDEN Amateur Boxing Club staged its second annual showcase of the season at the Tynemouth Park Hotel - with all but one of its fighters winning their bouts.

The show, sponsored by Radar Taxis, featured 14 competitive fights with boxers from Manchester and Scotland braving severe weather conditions to appear.

Marden coach Dean Preston said: “Despite terrible weather we still had a healthy crowd in attendance to watch our local boxers.

“I was very pleased with all who competed as everyone gave their all to put on a good show.

“Amateur boxing requires skill and dedication and as a club we try to make our shows a family-friendly event, allowing the local community to get involved and help support us.

“Everyone performed fantastically and we had stand- out performers with local lad Daniel Fairlamb picking up the best junior boxer trophy for his stoppage win over a game challenger.

“Dan grew into the contest and weathered early pressure to come out on top and receive the best male boxer award. “

Beckah Innes captured an excellent unanimous decision against the current four-time Scottish national champion and was voted the best senior boxer of the show.

Due to the success of its shows so far, Marden will be holding a third showcase on June 27 at the Kings Street Social Club in North Shields.
