Spennymoor suffer derby day despair

-

SPENNYMOOR Town’s National League North play-off hopes took a blow as local rivals Darlington took all three points at Brewery Field.

Former Quakers midfielder Jamie Chandler handed the Moors a perfect start when he put them ahead on two minutes.

Talismanic striker Reece Styche got the visitors back on level-terms midway through the first-half with a neat turn and finish.

Joe Tait’s own-goal put the Quakers ahead for the first time in the game and they held on for an impressive win.

Stockton Town qualified for the semi-finals of the Brooks Mileson Memorial Cup with a 3-2 win over Morpeth Town. Mark Davison’s early header was cancelled out by a Jamie Owens goal early in the second-half. Marske United continued to keep up the pressure on Division One leaders Morpeth with a win at Dunston UTS.

Jarrow Roofing held on to take a point from their home game against West Auckland Town.

Nathan Fisher’s flicked finish gave West a half-time lead, although the hosts missed an opportunity to get back on levelterms when Shane Bland saved a Dennis Knight penalty.

Lewis Walton got the Roofing back level but they were reduced to ten men when Dennis Knight was dismissed in the closingstages.

Confusion reigned as the match official looked to have abandoned the game after the dismissal, but the players reappeared and the points were shared.

Ashington inflicted a heavy 6-1 defeat on already-relegated Billingham Synthonia.

Whickham missed the opportunity to top the Division Two table as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Jarrow FC.

Crook Town were 2-1 winners over Billingham Town thanks to goals from Joel Gordon and Kyle Morris. Chris Stephenson and Lee Mole goals gave Chester-le-Street Town a 2-0 win at Esh Winning ,

And Daniel Walker hit a brace in Tow Law Town’s 5-0 hammering of bottom of the table Alnwick Town.
