NTCL DIVISION TWO

-

FIVE former NCL champions renew their rivalry in Division Two as Cowgate (2007), Bedlington (2013), Bates Cottages (2015) and Tillside (2016), are now joined by Blyth.

Blyth, last champions of the Northumberland Cricket League, have a new captain this season. Andy Kemp has taken over the first-team captaincy following Mark Lawrence’s move to Ashington Rugby.

Kemp said: “This coming season will be a challenge for the club following last year’s championship winning season, the aim is to try and consolidate within this league.”

Chris Smith has joined the club from Kirkley. Blyth travel to Annfield Plain on the opening day.

Two teams that missed out on promotion last year, clash on the opening day as Bedlington, who finished third, make the short trip to Seaton Burn, who finished three points behind in fourth.

Chris Younger once again leads Bedlington who this year have added Australian wicketkeeper/batsman Kaidin Jackson to their squad and also Richard Lee, moving from Ulgham.

Bates Cottages, involved in the relegation fight with Benwell & Walbottle last season, are “looking to improve on last seasons finish” said captain Ross Symington, who will again be in charge of the first team. They welcome Tillside. The Etal club keep faith with the same squad.

Ponteland, relegated last season, host Alnwick while Leadgate, also relegated last season, make the trip to Cowgate. Morpeth welcome Greenside. Opening day fixtures: Annfield Plain v Blyth, Bates Cottages v Tillside, Cowgate v Leadgate, Morpeth v Greenside, Ponteland v Alnwick, Seaton Burn v Bedlington
