Cestria put 15 past Wallsend

NORTH EAST WOMEN’S LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

-

LEADERS Durham Cestria inflicted a heaviest-ever defeat on Wallsend BCL, romping to a 15-0 victory.

For the Cestrians, who led 10-0 at the break, Megan Elliott found the target four times.

Sophie Hodgson helped herself to a hat-trick, as did Molly Holder.

A brace by Jenny Bitzer was added to by Caroline Dixon, Ellis Dalgleish and Hannah Greenwood efforts.

Wallsend slip down to third from bottom as a result of this defeat.

Title favourites Norton and Stockton Ancients came back from conceding an early goal to beat visitors Castleford 8-1.

Nyci Thorns and Courtney Corrie both scored hat-tricks, Kate McSorley on target twice.

There is no change at the top but Norton, with three games in hand, could go to the summit should they win their midweek match by 12 goals.

Tynedale lost their last home game of the season, going down 3-1 against Farsley Celtic.

The visitors started brightly and took a 2-0 half-time lead through Keegan Lambert and Emma Lee.

Tynedale halved the deficit shortly after the restart when a Rebecca Knight cross was headed in by Natasha Wilson.

Chances dried up afterwards before a hopeful long ball found Elanna Prothero, who made sure of the points.

In midweek, Nyci Thorns scored a hat-trick as Norton and Stockton Ancients beat Hartlepool United 4-0 to move within three points of Durham Cestria and end the Cleveland side’s title chances.

Goals by Christine Murray, Natasha Wilson and Rachel Maddison and a brace by Vicky Jayne gave Tynedale a 5-1 victory at Wallsend BCL.

Hannah Gosnold struck for the home side.

Wallsend BCL hosted Norton and Stockton Ancients in midweek before welcoming Wakefield to Kirkley Park on Sunday.

Hartlepool United are at home to York City while Durham Cestria are at Altofts for their League Cup semifinal.
