Eppleton enjoy a Trophy triumph

EPPLETON Under-15s enjoyed a ninewicket victory over Sacriston in the opening round of the Durham Cricket Board Junior League Central Division’s Ken Ferguson Memorial Trophy, writes SAM BLACKLOCK.

After winning the toss Eppleton inserted Sacriston, who struggled to reach 36-5 despite 18 from Joshua Hornsby and 13 from James Hannon.

Sam Surtees bagged an early wicket for Sacriston - but an unbeaten 22 from Jye Richardson and 11 from Hollie Forsyth saw Eppleton home in 7.1 overs.

Chester-le-Street Under-15s were comfortabl­e winners over Philadelph­ia.

Batting first, the Cestrians amassed 125-2 from 20 overs with Robbie Dawson (50) and Aaradhya TiwarI (35) leading the way.

Davidson and Walton both picked up one wicket apiece for Philadelph­ia, who only managed 65 from their 20 overs.

Archie Smiles top-scored with 19 while Luke Robinson supported with 15.

An unbeaten 52 from Joe Weightman and 31 from Taylor Vout saw Hetton Lyons triumph by 89 runs against Durham City.

Luke Husband picked up 3-5 as Durham City finished on 35-9 from 20 overs.

■■MARSDEN edged home by just one wicket against Whitburn in the opening round of the Don Lyons Memorial Trophy.

Whitburn batted first, posting 93-9 from 20 overs as Jude Ramsey top-scored with 39.

Zak Curry bagged 3-15 for Marsden while Matthew Hughes picked up two wickets.

Marsden were in control but when opener Zak Curry retired for 50 wickets started to fall.

However, the South Tynesiders edged home with only one ball to spare.

Hylton conceded their Trophy clash to Sunderland. ■■JAKE Pratt stared with the ball (3-6 from five overs) as Eppleton Under-15s were victorious over Castle Eden by seven wickets in the opening round of the North East Premier League Junior Cup.

Castle Eden batted and got off to a flyer after a quickfire 31 from Josh Taylor - but once Taylor departed Eden slumped to 57 all out.

In reply, Eppleton lost opener Ty Wilkinson for nought - but 13 not out from Eoin Nicholson and 12 from Pratt saw Eppleton home in 9.1 overs.

Sunderland Under-15s went down by 52 runs against Willington.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Willington posted 213-5 from their 30 overs.

Jake Dickinson celebrated an unbeaten 103 from 52 balls - supported by 53 from Isaac Fernyhough.

Joe Defty claimed 3-35 for Sunderland, who fell short in their reply despite 60 not out from Defty. Hayden Payne struck twice for Willington.

Whitburn enjoyed a nine-wicket victory over Gateshead Fell.

Batting first, the Fell were bowled out for just 68 as opener Ellis Warner top-scored with 29.

Mason Bell (3-5) and George Fairbairn (2-17) struck for the village side.

Whitburn reached their target in 11 overs as Ben Kennedy (24 not out) and Jude Ramsey (23) top-scored. ■■MATCHES in the Durham Cricket Board Under-18 Divisions were abandoned due to the weather, while Burnmoor conceded their fixture at Chester-le-treet.
