A CHILDREN’S nursery manager has appeared in court accused of stealing more than £350,000 from her employer.

Sharon Moore is alleged to have pocketed the cash over a 10-year period from Tynemouth Nursery Group Ltd, which has a number of branches in the North East but is based in Tynemouth.

North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court was told that the 46-year-old is suspected of stealing the money while at first working as a manager for the nursery on Preston Avenue, Tynemouth, before becoming an area manager.

Moore, of Beaumaris Court, Longbenton, was in the dock where she withheld her plea to one count of theft by employee.

She spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth, address and nationality during the brief hearing. Laura Croft, prosecuting, said, because the amount Moore allegedly stole was £354,241.81, the case should be sent to the crown court.

“This is not suitable to be allocated to the magistrates’ court and should be allocated to the crown court,” Miss Croft added.

“The amount allegedly stolen was just over £350,000 and there’s a breach of trust by virtue of the nature of the charge.”

Ms Croft said Moore was accused of committing the offence between February 10 2007 and April 24 2017. Jonathan Stirling, defending, said: “I have nothing to add on allocation.”

Magistrates declined jurisdiction and Moore was released on unconditional bail to next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on May 23.
