THE mother of Bradley Lowery has paid tribute to baby Alfie Evans, saying the pair will be playing together in heaven.

Gemma Lowery’s son Bradley, from Blackhall Colliery, County Durham, died at the age of six last July from childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

This morning, after a long-running legal battle, brave little Alfie Evans passed away aged just 23 months.

In a heartfelt post on the Bradley Lowery Facebook page, Gemma paid tribute to Alfie and sent words of comfort to his parents.

She wrote: “So sad to hear about the beautiful Alfie Evans.

“I’m sending my love to Alfie’s parents. They did everything they could for their little boy.

“RIP sweetheart. Fly high with them angels and go have some fun with my baby boy.”

Alfie captured the hearts of millions across the world as his case became the centre of a long-running legal battle between his parents and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

On Facebook, dad Tom Evans, 21, wrote: “My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings... absolutely heartbroken.”

Alfie, who was in a deep coma, had been suffering from a rare condition that doctors said had irreversibly destroyed much of his brain.

His death came after a long legal battle by mum Kate James, 20, and dad Tom to keep up their search for treatment for his illness.

Alder Hey Hospital issued a statement on Saturday morning expressing its “heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Alfie’s family”.
