Armstrong full of praise as his comeback kings battle for a draw

- By JEFF BOWRON

BLYTH Spartans manager Alun Armstrong praised his side’s resilience after they twice came from behind grab a share of the points at Nuneaton Town.

Robbie Dale, now just one short of 600 appearances for the club, scored the first equaliser, Sean Reid netting the second two minutes from time.

The 2-2 draw in the Midlands was only Blyth’s second of the season in Vanarama National League North.

Armstrong said: “We gave away a sloppy goal and then I changed it and we got back into the game - only to concede another sloppy goal.

“However, you have to give the lads credit with the amount of games we have had to play and the long journey to Nuneaton.

“We deserved something from the game and it was nice to go into it with something still to play for.

“The pitch was not great to play football on. We tried to, and on another day we could have been two up.

“The fans were outstanding. It is a shame we did not send them away with a win, but at least it was not a defeat.

“We have had a great season but it is tinged with disappointment as we did not manage to reach the playoffs.”

George Green’s first-half opener for Nuneaton was cancelled out by Dale 14 minutes from time with a low drive.

The Boro looked to have won it when Ashley Chambers scored, only for Reid to find the far corner to earn a point.

Blyth Spartans finished 10th in non-league’s second tier, four points adrift of the play-offs.
