Alan slams Slimani’s ‘stupidity’

-

ALAN Shearer is convinced Islam Slimani will pick up a three-game ban for lashing out at Craig Dawson during Newcastle United’s inept performance against West Bromwich Albion.

The Algeria international tried to defuse the situation with a smile, but the incident was caught by the BBC cameras with the moment analysed on Match of the Day.

Shearer (pictured below) said: “He will get a three-match ban, I have no doubt about it.

“It’s stupid. You’ve hardly even played for Newcastle and that’s probably the last time he will play for Newcastle.”

Rafa Benitez said of the incident: “Someone told me, but during the game, I couldn’t see anything, so we will see.

“At the moment, I am really upset with the result and we will analyse the other things later.”

If Slimani picks up a suspension, it would end his Toon career early after just 105 minutes on the field.

The former Sporting Lisbon striker missed six matches at the start of his loan deal due to a thigh injury.

Leicester paid £28million for his services from the Portuguese giants and want to recoup as much of that fee as possible. ■■Pep Guardiola has urged Manchester City to prove they are the best team in English history.

The newly crowned Premier League champions racked up a century of goals on their way to a 4-1 win at West Ham and now stand on the verge of a recordbreaking campaign.

City, who will be presented with the Premier League trophy on Sunday, need one more win to break Chelsea’s points record of 95 and two more goals to overtake the Blues’ Premier League high of 103.

Guardiola said: “I’m happy that next Sunday we will receive the Premier League and have the chance to be the best team in history in England, with the most points. We are going to try to do it next Sunday.

“To just be happy when you lift the title makes no sense. The numbers are facts, hopefully we will get one more victory and we will have 96.”
