NEWCASTLE University lead the division by nine points after results went in their favour.

They dismissed the challenge of hosts Shankhouse, 3-1 while second-placed Birtley dropped points against visitors Killingworth Town, drawing 1-1.

The Students led through Olly Walden after just 15 minutes and Niza Chilufya doubled the advantage five minutes later.

However, it was late in the second half before further counters were added.

Jonathon Edwards scored for the hosts with 15 minutes left and with ten minutes to go an own-goal ensured Uni took the points.

At Birtley, a quiet game saw both goals in the 1-1 draw arrive early in the second half.

Logan Powell opened the scoring nine minutes after the restart but Scott Bamburgh dispatched a penalty four minutes later to level.

Wallington are having a great finish to the season and continued their recent form to move within two points of fourth spot with a comfortable 5-1 home victory over Gateshead Rutherford.

Jordan Nellis struck twice alongside efforts from Kyle Reardon, Michael Angus and John Paxton, Lee Watson notching a consolation for Rutherford.

Jorge Bollado gave Percy Main Amateurs an early lead at bottom club FC United of Newcastle but they were made to wait until the second half to add to their advantage. That was eventually achieved courtesy of a quickfire brace from Joe Rowan to seal a 3-0 success.

Late finishes from Ethan Bewley and Gary Cook gave Ponteland all three points at Seaton Delaval.

AFC Newbiggin defeated Gateshead A 3-1.

Ashley Smith and Kevin Halliday gave the hosts a two-goal lead at the interval.

Although Liam Butler pulled a goal back for the Heed just after the hour, Kevin Long restored the twogoal cushion immediately afterwards.
