Dubravka is determined to keep going

-

MARTIN Dubravka insists he still has everything to prove during the final three matches of his Newcastle United loan spell.

The Magpies are now mathematically safe and, after back to back defeats against Everton and bottom of the table West Bromwich Albion, it has been suggested Newcastle players have allowed their levels to drop since they passed their 40-point target for the campaign earlier this month.

A top-10 finish is still attainable but, for Dubravka – who is determined to secure a permanent move to Tyneside – there remains a lot at stake personally.

Newcastle appear likely to activate the £4m option to buy clause in the loan deal the Magpies agreed with Dubravka’s parent club Sparta Prague come the end of the season, given the 29-year-old’s stellar performances so far.

However, the Slovakia international wants to impress against Watford, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea before the campaign is out to convince Rafa Benitez he is the goalkeeper who can help Newcastle move on to the next level.

Dubravka said: “We have to keep going in every game.

“We don’t have to think we have just three more games.

“We have Watford next, then we have to be ready for that.

“We must train well because, even though people are saying we are safe, especially for me I am not playing like that.

“I came here for half a year and I have to prove myself until the end.

“My team-mates also want to prove themselves because they are great players and they want to give everything for the club.

“We have to give everything into our games, give all our energy and go for it.”

Dubravka started his Newcastle career with four successive home victories but he suffered defeat at St James’ Park for the first time on Saturday.

The Magpies struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against West Brom, and were punished when they switched off defensively to allow Matt Phillips to fire in a first-half winner.

Duvbravka added: “I think it was a disappointing day.

“We would have liked to have shown the fans the attitude is really high and we would have liked to give them the victory.

“Unfortunately, we did not do that.”
