A double defeat for Mohawks

-

WHITLEY Mohawks were involved in two English Under-13 North Division Two matches at Hillheads.

Firstly, Telford Tiger-Cubs returned home with the points after a 10-3 victory.

Telford went ahead on the powerplay at 06.20 through Louis Molyneux and he doubled the lead just 30 seconds later.

The visitors added a third thanks to Daniel Serkins in the 13th minute.

Mohawks’ Owen Yarrow reduced the deficit with the first of his three goals a minute later.

The deficit was cut again at 21.02 when Yarrow netted his second but, with just 89 seconds having gone and on the powerplay, Tiger-Cubs scored again through Serkins.

It was not too long before Yarrow completed his hat-trick to reduce the deficit 4-3 at 22-56, James Toby picking up the assist.

Tiger-Cubs upped the pace at the start of the final period and with only 46 seconds gone Molyneux registered his hat-trick marker to restore the two-goal margin.

Tyler Stanton added the sixth for the visitors a minute later.

Telford then struck four times in as many minutes through Kyle Watt, Molyneux (2) and Serkins to round off a 10-3 victory.

On Sunday Sutton Sting were the opposition for Mohawks and triumphed 6-4 - the hosts a goal behind in the second minute.

Remy Langton and Jack Straw combined and the latter drove the puck past Mark Lowes.

The Mohawks drew level in the final minute of the first period, taking advantage of their only powerplay.

Harvey Starkie and Yarrow were involved in the build-up, which resulted in Toby notching the equaliser at 14.14.

Sting were back in front only ten seconds later through Joel Hopcroft and it handed the visitors a narrow first-period advantage.

The second session began as the first ended.

The Mohawks were back on level terms when Yarrow netted his first goal of the game with just 30 seconds gone.

Suttont went 3-2 ahead with a Straw strike at 18.50 - only to see a determined home side restore parity 44 seconds later through Starkie.

Straw completed his hat-trick as he sent the visitors ahead again at 22.15 but Starkie’s second goal of the game levelled the match at 4-4.

Hopcroft gave Sutton a 5-4 lead at 38.28 and his hat-trick marker then sealed the visitors’ victory.
