Woman loses fight for life after accident

Reporter A 76-YEAR-OLD woman involved in a crash on the Spine Road near Cramlingto­n has died two days after the collision.

The elderly woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition after two cars collided on the A189 on Monday morning.

Police said the woman died of her injuries in hospital on Wednesday.

It is believed two vehicles – a silver Skoda and a black Kia – were involved in the collision, adding that a third vehicle had broken down ahead of the crash scene.

The critically-injured passenger was accompanie­d to hospital by an air ambulance doctor in an ambulance while one driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Another driver was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Northumbri­a Police are still investigat­ing the incident and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police can confirm that a 76-yearold woman involved in a collision on the Spine Road on Monday has died. One passenger was taken to hospital with life-threatenin­g injuries. Yesterday, she sadly passed away. Nobody else was seriously injured.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with informatio­n, or who may have dashcam footage, is asked to get in touch on 101 to assist officers with their investigat­ion.

“Anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 0203 300418 or Crimestopp­ers anonymousl­y on 0800 555 111.”

Paramedics and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.
