Wallsend hit back after a heavy defeat

WALLSEND BCL suffered a 15-0 defeat last midweek against title favourites Norton and Stockton Ancients, who went top on goal difference.

Six goals were claimed by Vicki Burton and five by Nyci Thorns for Norton, Kate McSorley, Sian Williams, Aimee Stabler and Shannon Reed also on target.

With their 100% record still intact, the Teesside club moved level on points with Durham Cestria – but with two games still in hand.

On Sunday Wallsend welcomed Wakefield and bounced back in style with a 10-0 victory.

Despite conceding 30 goals in two games, Wallsend played with confidence – Brittany Davison hitting a hat-trick.

Samantha Deverdics was on target twice, Hannah Gosnold, Michaela McHugh, Emily Tate, Tanya McGowan and Catherine Shields also on the scoresheet.

Hartlepool United prevailed 3-0 against York City, the side playing at Victoria Park for the first time in its history.

In front of a decent crowd, counters by Jade Pye, Caitlin Bates and Faye Garside earned all three points.

Tynedale complete their season with a trip to Durham Cestria while Wallsend BCL travel to York City on Sunday.

The League Cup final will be contested by the Premier Division’s top two as Norton and Stockton Ancients and Durham Cestria both came through their semi-final matches.

Durham Cestria won through at Southern Division Altofts 3-0.

All the goals came in the first half courtesy of Sophie Hodgson, Nicola Gibson and Megan Elliott.

Norton came out on top against league rivals Farsley Celtic, battling to a 2-1 success to keep alive their treble dreams.

Vicki Burton and Chelsea Bell struck in the first half before Shirley Murphy notched midway through the second period – making for a tense finish.

The League Cup final will take place on May 13 at Wilberfoss, York.
