Reimbursing fans is a Good move by club

- By CHRIS WAUGH

NEWCASTLE United have taken the extraordinary step of offering supporters who were left out of pocket by the late rescheduling of the Everton game the opportunity to apply to the club for a “financial gesture.”

The fixture at Goodison Park was initially scheduled for a 3.00 kick-off on Saturday, April 21, but was changed to an 8.00 start on Monday, April 23.

That postponement by 53 hours only arrived less than a month before the initial game was scheduled for - and a full three days after almost 3,000 tickets were released for general sale.

United announced in April they would refund any match tickets returned more than 72 hours before kick-off, while supporters who did go to the game were given £5 vouchers to purchase food and drink at Goodison Park.

However, Newcastle have now gone further in their attempts to help supporters who forked out for accommodation and non-refundable travel by giving fans the chance to apply for a “financial gesture.”

The movement of the game was entirely out of Newcastle’s hands Sky selected the Everton match for live broadcast after other fixtures were postponed due to FA Cup fixtures - with Premier League clubs unable to veto the rescheduling of games due to the impact it has on travelling fans.

Instead, top-flight clubs are only able to object to the movement of matches for live broadcast on safety and policing grounds.

Any supporter who pre-paid for non-refundable, non-transferable accommodation or travel ahead of the game can apply via the typeform website: https://nufc.typeform.com/to/GNiWHQ.

It is vital supporters include any travel or accommodation documents to prove they purchased accommodation or travel.

They can be uploaded on to the typeform website and can be supplied as online receipts or scanned documents.
