MUST-SEE SHOWS
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? Tonight ITV, 9.15pm
WHAT do you do when you want to revive the UK’s most popular TV quiz in celebration of its 20th anniversary? Phone a friend, of course. The producers of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? did just that, calling up The Grand Tour host and self-confessed quiz fan Jeremy Clarkson to step into Chris Tarrant’s shoes for a special week-long run.
As they give their final answers to up to 15 questions, each player will have three lifelines at their disposal in case they get stuck – Ask the Audience, 50:50 and the aforementioned Phone a Friend.
But they should be aware that there are also a few new twists along the way.
BAKE OFF: THE PROFESSIONALS Tomorrow, Channel 4, 8pm
WHEN The Great British Bake Off moved from the BBC to Channel 4 it was headline news, but there wasn’t quite as much speculation about what that would mean for the future of Bake Off: Creme de la Creme.
Perhaps it’s because the spin-off never quite captured the public’s imagination in the same way as the main show. Now the format is coming to Channel 4 with a new name, Bake Off: Professionals and two new presenters in the shape of comedian Tom Allen and 2017 Bake Off contestant (and viewer favourite) Liam Charles. Judges Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin are back though, ready to rank the efforts of professional duos from around the UK.
PETER KAY’S CAR SHARE UNSCRIPTED Monday, BBC1, 10pm
LAST year, following the broadcast of the second series’ final episode, Peter Kay claimed that Car Share was no more, it had finished forever and we would never find out if John and Kayleigh could repair their friendship.
But when fans began to protest (a petition containing around 100,000 signatures was even set up), Kay relented, and so he and co-star/writer Sian Gibson are back for two final episodes – one is unscripted (and is being broadcast this week), while the other should, hopefully, bring the story to a fitting and satisfying conclusion.
LATER LIVE – WITH JOOLS HOLLAND Tuesday, BBC2, 10pm
RETURN of the live music programme, featuring Snow Patrol. Twenty years on from their debut, they will be performing songs
from their seventh studio album, Wildness.
South London’s Shame, Detroit-raised soul singer Bettye Lavette, American R&B act Tower of Power, Northumberland singer-songwriter Jade Bird, and singer/actor Plan B (aka Ben Drew) also perform.
JOSHUA V KLITSCHKO: RETURN TO WEMBLEY Wednesday, BBC1, regions vary
LAST April, there was a lot of excitement around Anthony Joshua getting in the ring with Wladimir Klitschko. The fight more than lived up to the hype, as the 90,000 fans who watched the clash live at Wembley were treated to the sporting event of the year. Now a year on, the two fighters meet again to talk about that fateful night.
RIOT GIRLS Thursday, Channel 4, 10pm
APPARENTLY Grace Campbell, Sophie Duker, Jen Wakefield and Cam Spence are some of the UK’s most outspoken and exciting comedic talents.
Collectively they’re known as the Riot Girls, and Channel 4 has given them their own series.
Here’s a chance to find out if they live up to the hype; their first programme as a collective is a half-hour pilot for a prospective series.
Among the highlights are their take on the gender pay gap via the ‘gappuccino’, and tips on dealing with a new phenomenon sweeping across public transport – ‘wo-manspreading’.
THE ONE SHOW: NHS PATIENTS AWARDS SPECIAL Friday, BBC1, 7pm
AS THE NHS marks its 70th anniversary, The One Show, together with the Patients Association, pays its respects to the extraordinary people who keep it going day after day. Matt Baker and Alex Jones present a special edition honouring and celebrating the work of those staff who deliver outstanding care, as nominated by viewers.
