Car-crossed lovers

-

AS IF daily commutes aren’t frustrating enough, we were left on tenterhooks when we saw John and Kayleigh’s last journey to work.

Peter Kay and Sian Gibson’s hit comedy, based entirely on two people making small talk in a red Fiat to the soundtrack of Forever FM, captured the nation’s hearts.

As series two ended last year (the last ever we were told), we were desperate for a happy-everafter for John and Kayleigh.

But it wasn’t the cheeriest of conclusions – Kayleigh declared her love for John, but then ran into a taxi crying, leaving him unable to express how he felt.

The worst bit? She had just missed a heartfelt dedication from John on Forever FM.

How unlikely that a 30-minute sitcom has given rise to one of the greatest love stories on telly.

So it’s with great excitement that we welcome this brief return from the pair – an entire car journey, improvised.

“We decided to try something special,” says Peter. “What would it be like if we filmed a whole journey without a script, just making it up and basically seeing what happened?”

Peter has also revealed that he and Sian, who are old university mates, were always “very fond of ad libbing”.

And with the chemistry between the pair usually fizzing off the screen, we’ve no doubt this will work brilliantly.

A trailer reveals Kayleigh doing a bad Heather Small impression. “Ah, it’s Miss Piggy!” retorts John.

“Nearly all of the laughter you see is genuine,” says Sian. We’re in for a treat.
