Hold the sugar, I’m sweet enough!
MUCH to the disgust of my family of full-fat milk drinkers, for the past 35 years I have used semi-skimmed milk to reduce my fat intake as I was told it is healthier.
I eat a low-fat, low-sugar cereal for breakfast and when I was in the supermarket yesterday just as a matter of interest I compared the sugar content of the famous name brand of my cereal with the own brand version of the store.
Whilst doing so I came across an interesting fact that I had not noticed before. The sugar content of the milk I put on my cereal is twice that of the cereal itself.
Add that to the sugar in the milk I put in my coffee, the evaporated milk I put on my sugar free jelly, tinned fruit (in natural juice) and stewed apple, the occasional jelly baby is going to throw me over the edge.
So now I have to ban milk from my diet, have only a small amount of alcohol and stop drinking coffee because I don’t like it black.
It appears I must restrict my fluid intake to mainly water. I use mainly in a double sense because I must not buy bottled water because it comes in plastic bottles and is a con anyway.
So I resort to the excellent water provided through my kitchen tap of which I already drink about four pints a day (stuff litres, we’re leaving the EU now).
