A champion week for title-winning Saints

-

TWO wins inside a week secured the Premier Division honours for Saint Paul’s Ryhope.

Anthony Young claimed a double and a shot from Paul Brooke gave the Wearsiders a 3-1 win at YAV SIFF, which meant they needed just a point from their two remaining games at Jesmond Parish Church and Consett Saint Patrick’s to be champions.

On Saturday the Sunderland side visited Jesmond, who had not read the script as Anthony Henderson and Nathan Douglas gave them a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Within a minute of the second period starting, an own goal gave Saint Paul’s a lifeline.

Going into the last ten minutes Young equalised for 2-2 and with almost the last kick of the match Paul Brooke struck to give Saints a 3-2 win - and the title.

Jubilee Church Teesside took a 2-0 lead through Michael Mayberry and John Cooper inside 12 minutes against North Shields Community Christians.

Cranswick pulled a goal back and within a minute Christians had tied the match at 2-2 thanks to Dwayne Murray’s finish.

Anthony Pierson’s piledriver fired Jubilee into the break 3-2 in front.

Two minutes into the second half David Marrin tied the match at 3-3 and five minutes later Cranswick added his second to give North Shields the advantage.

Mayberry nabbed his second for Jubilee to make it 4-4.

In the last 15 minutes Daniel Bland and Conor Higgins gave Christians a 6-4 verdict.

Consett St Patricks defeated Sunderland Samba 3-1.

In Division One, Hillsong Newcastle went to Morpeth Mighty Oaks with the title up for grabs.

Morpeth were 1-0 up after just 20 seconds through Clark Gunn, but after 10 minutes Jaddai Kembeya equalised.

Matt Siddle made it 2-1 but within a minute Lee Wilson pulled it back to 2-2 - only to see Siddle register his second goal five minutes later to give Morepth a 3-2 advantage at half-time.

After an hour Wilson grabbed his second to tie the scores again at 3-3 but for the fourth time in the match Morpeth regained the lead at 4-3 through Harry Chapman.

Again Hillsong levelled courtesy of Evan Holmes - but with five minutes left Wilson completed his hat-trick as Hillsong Newcastle prevailed 5-4 to be crowned champions.
