Tour cancelled due to death

-

THE Overtones have cancelled their UK tour dates, including one in Newcastle, after the shock death of band member Timmy Matley last month.

The band announced the still-unexplained death of 36-year-old Timmy on social media on April 11.

And they returned to Facebook yesterday to inform fans they are shelving their live shows, which would have brought them to the Tyne Theatre in July.

The Facebook post read “After much careful consideration we have decided to cancel our summer tour dates.

“Not only do we feel that we need some time to process the loss of our friend, brother and band mate, we also want to take some time to re-group and come back later on this year with new music and more live dates.

“This is absolutely not the end of The Overtones, we just want to make sure everything we do next is a celebration of love, friendship and good times that will both comfort and uplift you, not only as a tribute to our dear friend Timmy, but also as a tribute to the amazing eight years we spent together as a band and the memories we have made and shared with you all.

“We’ve been extremely comforted and encouraged by the amazing support we have received over the last couple of weeks and we look forward to showing our appreciation with what comes next. All our love Darren, Mike, Mark and Lachie xx.’ The Overtones have received tremendous receptions whenever they have performed in the North East. And passing on their condolences to the band and Timmy’s family, the Tyne Theatre tweeted: “@the_ overtones show on 13 July has been cancelled, please find a statement from the band below. “We send our love to Timmy’s family and the band during this very sad time. “Refunds are available from point of purchase.”
