Sax appeal of five-star Guy

TYNEDALE’S unbeaten start to the season came to an end, losing by 97 runs at Swalwell.

The hosts’ openers, Chris Hewison and John Meadows, put on 236 for the first wicket before Meadows was bowled on 114.

He hit 15 boundaries before Hewison also fell to Paul Newton a run later after hitting six fours and four sixes.

Newton claimed another wicket to finish with 3-77 as Swalwell closed on 275-5.

Guy Saxton took three early wickets, including Tom Cant for 38, as Tynedale fell to 44-3.

James Rainford offered resistance scoring 65 before falling to Saxton on 146-8.

Tynedale were bowled out on 178 with Saxton ending with figures of 5-25 from 12 overs.

Swalwell moved into second, behind Shotley Bridge, who secured a third consecutiv­e maximumpoi­nt victory – beating Lanchester away, also by 97 runs.

A century by Paul Greenwell helped the visitors post 281 from 49 overs.

Greenwell smashed 13 fours and five sixes in his 114, with cameos by Mick Allen (34) and Ross Burdon (38) before Shotley Bridge lost their last five wickets for only 15 runs.

Kieron Taylor claimed 5-65. The hosts were well placed on 126-3 before Gregg Halliday’s dismissal for 35 led to a flurry of wickets.

Sam Crooks went on to reach 101 for Lanchester, hitting 10 fours and three sixes before falling, leaving his side short on 184.

Mick Allen (3-43), Jack Rowley (3-43) and Kieran Milburn (3-54) did the damage.

Ryton thrashed Alnmouth and Lesbury at home by 169 runs to register their first win of the season.

Syed Mohtashim carried his bat, finishing 135 not out.

He smashed 14 fours and a six in his 144-ball innings, Liam Clarke also contributi­ng 52 as Ryton finished on 273-5.

Paul Straker hit 40 in reply as the hosts reached 79-1 before Jordan O’Neill ripped through the line-up.

He celebrated a hat-trick in claiming 7-11 as Alnmouth were quickly skittled out for 104.

Ashington came away from Newcastle City with maximum points after winning by six wickets.

Ben Harmison (4-13) and Paul Rutherford 4-8 restricted City to 121 all out.

Ben O’Brien (20 not out) and former Durham man Harmison (25 not out) then helped Ashington comfortabl­y reach 122-4.

Percy Main triumphed for the first time this season, winning at Stocksfiel­d by 14 runs.

Anthony Hornby (78), Will Taylor (52) and Fraser Oates (49) helped the visitors total 231-8.

In reply, Tristram Douglas hit 52, Sam Beedle 51 and Dan Wylie 49 – but Stocksfiel­d still fell short of their target on 217.
