Bridge too far as Dale beaten

A MAN-OF-THE-MATCH display by Majid Ansari helped Bedlington thrash Alnwick by 235 runs.

The unbeaten hosts’ opener Chris Younger made 61 and Connor Leason hit 59 while Ansari finished on 147 not out as Bedlington totalled 318-6. Max Harrison recorded figures of 3-39.

First-change bowler Ansari then destroyed Alnwick’s reply, ripping through the line-up.

He bowled opener Andrew Scott for 34 and that led to an Alnwick capitulati­on, with Scott finishing with incredible figures of 6-7 from nine overs as Alnwick were skittled out for only 83.

Annfield Plain also stayed unbeaten after a easing to 239- run win at Bates Cottages.

The Durham side slipped to 17-2 before David Baxter and Tyron White shared a third-wicket partnershi­p of 194.

Baxter fell on 129, hitting 12 fours and six sixes from 108 balls.

An amazing partnershi­p of 130 from the final nine overs enabled the the visitors to finish on 355-4.

White finished unbeaten on 97 while David Maughan smashed six fours and eight sixes, ending 92 not out from only 39 deliveries.

John Maughan then claimed 3-24, SHOTLEY Bridge made it five wins out of five but dropped their first point of the season in their 157-run victory at home to Tynedale.

The hosts watched a secondwick­et partnershi­p of 197 between Kieran Milburn and Paul Greenwell swing the game in their favour.

Milburn hit 11 fours and a six but was bowled on 91 before Greenwell was run out on 109, which included nine fours and three sixes.

Sam Peter ended with figures of 5-39 as Shotley posted 298-7.

Tight bowling limited Tynedale’s run chase but failed to bowl out their visitors, who finished well short on 141-8.

Opener Tom Cant top-scored with 38 while Tom May was the pick of the bowlers with 4-22.

Swalwell squeezed past Consett by three wickets to stay in second.

Consett batted first, Kamran Mansoor making 58 and Stuart Graham 33, but Guy Saxton (4-16) and helping to bowl out Bates for only 116 in reply.

Leadgate’s unbeaten run came to end after they went down at Morpeth by 16 runs.

Morpeth posted 170, Jack Concannon top-scoring with 47 with Paul Johnston weighing in with 36. Nick Phillips (4-26) helped to bowl out their visitors for only 126.

Swalwell then struggled to 99-7 but Richard Shotton quickly hit four fours – finishing 21 not and, with Phillips (14 not out), steering Swalwell home on 127-7.

Graham finished with 3-40 while Mansoor claimed 3-29.

Joe Banks scored 39 before Lee Innes was left on 41 not out as Leadgate were bowled out for 154.

Blyth are still looking for their first win after losing at Seaton Burn by 31 runs.

James Stanistree­t hit a fine 72 but lacked support as Main were bowled out for 152.

Saleem Akhtar (3-30), Syed Mohtashim (3-31) and David Howorth (3-47) did the damage.

Opener Mohtashim then made an unbeaten 70, hitting 13 boundaries, in guiding Ryton to 155-4.
