Players on the move and new managers in

-

FA Vase winner Alex Nicholson is the prominent name on a list of four players released by South Shields.

Luke Sullivan, Jamie Holmes and young striker Aksel Juul have also been let go by the Mariners.

Former Newcastle United youngster Nicholson joined the club from Blyth Spartans in December 2016 and was part of the Mariners side that won four trophies during the 2016/17 season.

An injury led to a reduced role in this season’s Evo-Stik North title triumph and now he will ply his trade away from Mariners Park next season.

The club also confirmed that joint-managers Graham Fenton and Lee Picton remain in talks with Michael Richardson, Louis Storey and striker Stephen Ramsey.

Former Gateshead, Darlington and Spennymoor Town striker Graeme Armstrong has been transfer-listed, and Newcastle United Under-23s goalkeeper Paul Woolston has returned to the Magpies after his loan spell with the Mariners ended.

The Mariners began their summer recruitment with the addition of former Darlington defender Gary Brown and Chris Hunter.

It seems that their next addition is likely to be a forward, with Gavin Cogdon and Carl Finnigan currently the only striking options in the squad.

Meanwhile, Former Whitley Bay manager Ian Chandler will be back in a Northern League dugout again next season.

The four-time FA Vase winner has been appointed the new manager of Division One club Bishop Auckland.

Chandler succeeds former Two-Blues manager Colin Myers, who stepped down from his role at Heritage Park.

The former Barnsley striker scored the winning goal in Whitley Bay’s FA Vase final win over Tiptree in 2002 and led them to three consecutive Vase wins between 2009 and 2011.

He also had a spell in charge of Durham City and returned to Bay for a six-month spell in 2016.

Chandler told Bishop Auckland’s website: “I am delighted to accept the offer of appointment as team manager of this great club and I can’t wait to start work building a squad for next season.”

Chandler will be joined at Heritage Park by former Whitley Bay colleague Brian Rowe, who is also a former Bishops player.
