Care home staff suspended after assault claims
POLICE TO INVESTIGATE THREE STAFF MEMBERS’ BEHAVIOUR
A NEWCASTLE care home is being investigated over allegations residents have been assaulted by staff.
Northumbria Police and the Care Quality Commission are investigating claims three members of staff abused residents at Park House Care Home in Fawdon.
It is understood the members of staff have been suspended whilst the investigation is taking place.
A spokesman for Akari Care, which runs the home, said they are cooperating with all the relevant parties but could not comment further.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “We are aware of allegations that residents at a care home in the Fawdon area of Newcastle have been assaulted by three members of staff.
“Inquiries into the allegations are ongoing which are being supported by the care home. However, nobody has been arrested by police.”
A CQC spokesperson said they commenced an inspection after concerns were raised, and the inspection is still ongoing.
The added: “We are working very closely with Northumbria Police, and our partner agencies, to ensure the safety and well-being of the people in the home.
“A report on our findings will be issued in due course.”
