Reporter TRIBUTES have been paid to a Washington dad tragically killed in a car crash.

Alex Slark, of Washington, was driving his BMW 320i when it is believed to have collided with two stationary vehicles on the A1290 near the Nissan Factory and then crashed into a heavy goods vehicle.

The 26-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident on May 22 but died of serious head injuries.

His friend, Aaron Stevens, said the Nissan worker had two loves - his daughter Scarlett and high performance cars.

Aaron, 36, said: “He has been a good friend for sometime.

“I was just saying to someone the last time I saw him he was out with his daughter and I was with my children we had a good craic.

“He was a good lad, a hardworking lad who wanted to provide the best life for his daughter.”

Aaron, who lives in Washington, runs the Free Run Rally car group which Alex was a member of.

The long distance lorry driver said: “His second love was BMWs. He loved BMW performance cars. It was his dream to have a BMW and he achieved it.

“We [Free Run Rally] go out on trips regularly to get out, rather than just sitting about and Alex would regularly take part in that as well.”

Now, Aaron is appealing for drivers to help form a procession of exotic cars to follow the funeral procession.

“We were asked by his family to organise a convoy of exotic cars for the funeral,” he said. “We hope to have at least 10 to 15 cars there. It will be a fitting send-off for Alex.”

Alex’s funeral will take place on Monday, with anyone who would like to join the convoy asked to arrive at Washington Service station at 9am.
