Durham open account with victory over Northumber­land

LUCAS Parry led by example as Durham Under-15s opened their ECB County Cup campaign with a 41-run victory over Northumber­land at Gateshead Fell. Parry, who carried his bat, scored a magnificen­t 134-ball 105, scoring five fours as Durham posted 222/5 from their 50 overs. Isaac Unsworth added 30 from 41 balls, supported by a 68-ball 23 from Ben Scott. The Northumber­land bowling line up all contribute­d with the ball as Fletcher, Scott, Kankala, Percival and Foreman all struck. Durham struck from the off, as both openers departed for nought, with wickets continuing to fall as Northumber­land found themselves 117/8, despite a spirited 46 from Will Perry. Matthew Scott (39) and Matthew Stewart (12) added 49 for the 10th wicket as Northumber­land were bowled out for 181 in 44.4 overs.

Hetton Lyons proved to be too strong for Washington, outgunning the Harraton side by 93 runs. Washington won the toss and elected to field, which proved costly as the Lyons posted 141/2 from 20 overs. Joe Weightman top scored with an unbeaten 53 backed by 41 from Ben Mckinney. Lander and Lake O’Brien both bagged one each for Washington. Washington finished on 48/6 from 20 overs, Cameron Longstaff top scoring with 16 supported by 15 from Daniel Bone. Jack Scott (3/3) was the pick of the bowlers for Hetton.

South Shields remained top of the Durham Cricket Board Junior League Division 1 with a 54-run victory over Eppleton. After winning the toss, Shields amassed 152/5 with Ben Scott top scoring with 51 from 47 balls, backed by 41 from Joshua Leslie and 28 from Ewan Jenkins. Edward Brown (2/17) and Jack Metcalfe (2/24) both struck for the Hetton side. Eppleton started brightly, thanks to Jake Pratt as he fired a quick-fire 50 from 32 balls, backed by 21 from Jye Richardson, but Eppleton finished at 98/8 from 20 overs. Ewan Jenkins bagged 2/16 with Leslie and Sameer Awan also picking up one apiece.

Sacriston were bowled out for just 19 away to Durham City, as City outgunned them by 102 runs, with Hamish Barrie top scoring with 50, backed by 39 from Tom Reynolds.

Joe Defty produced another impressive batting performanc­e as Sunderland cruised to a nine wicket victory over Gateshead Fell. The Fell posted 85/7 from 20 overs with Monty Dixon top scoring with 33. Defty scored 50 in reply, backed by 21 from Shay Ethan Donoghue as Sunderland took 14.2 overs to chase 86 down.
