Roads are going to be shut

THIS weekend is set to be a bumper one in Newcastle.

There’s the Blaydon Race today, along with two more Ed Sheeran gigs at St James’ Park today and tomorrow. The events are set to make the city centre extra busy. Ahead of them, Newcastle City Council’s announced a number of road closures, with the gig closures designed to make it safer for fans going to and leaving the shows.

Here is the full list:

ED SHEERAN ROAD CLOSURES

■■Strawberry Place (between Barrack Road and St James’ Street) closed between 4pm and midnight.

Back St James Street closed between 4pm and midnight. ■■Strawberry Lane closed between 4pm and midnight.

Terrace Place (between St James’ Street and its western junction with Leazes Terrace) closed between 4pm and midnight. ■■Leazes Terrace closed between 4pm and midnight.

Strawberry Place (between St James’ Street and Leazes Park Road) closed between 11pm and midnight. ■■St James’ Street and Terrace Place (between St James’ Street and its eastern junction with Leazes Terrace) closed between 11pm and midnight.

BLAYDON RACE CLOSURES (APPROXIMAT­E)

Grey Street (between High Bridge and Mosley Street) closed between 1pm and 4pm. ■■High Bridge (between Grey Street and Bigg Market) closed between 1pm and 4pm.

Cloth Market (between High Bridge and Mosley Street) closed between 2.45pm and 4pm. ■■Bigg Market (for its entire length) closed between 2.45pm and 4pm.
