Blyth AFC state Division One ambitions with four new signings

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

BLYTH AFC have boosted their squad with four new signings ahead of their first season in Ebac Northern League Division One.

North Shields duo Adam Forster and Ben Harmison, Whitley Bay fullback Jack Walker and Ashington’s Dylan Williamson have all joined the Braves.

Forster wrote himself into North Shields folklore when he netted the winner in their FA Vase Final win over Glossop North End in 2015.

The midfielder admitted that it was difficult to leave the Robins but is excited at the thought of playing for his new club.

Speaking to the club’s website he said: “It was never going to be an easy decision to leave (North) Shields, but I’m very happy to have signed for Blyth and looking forward to getting started. Speaking to the lads I know, Blyth are an ambitious team, who want to do things next season, which is always exciting playing in a team that want to push themselves.”

Braves joint-manager Jon McDonald worked with Forster during his time at North Shields and he believes that he is signing a complete midfielder. He said: “Fozzie is a terrific acquisition for Blyth AFC.

“He can do a bit of everything as a midfield player, he is very mobile, technically very good and has the ability to travel with the ball and can also score goals.”

FA Vase finalists Stockton Town have completed the signing of former Middlesbrough and Darlington player Jordan Robinson.

Robinson has also had spells with Wigan Athletic and Yytherogdal and he has now become manager Michael Dunwell’s first signing of the summer.

Consett manager Chris Moore has made his first signing since taking over the Belle View. Newcastle Benfield winger Luke Carr has agreed to join the Steelmen and has signed a “long-term contract” with the Ebac Northern League Division One club. Carr was a member of the Morpeth Town squad that won the FA Vase in 2016 and scored the Highwaymen’s second goal in their 4-1 win over Hereford in the final.

Second Division club Heaton Stannington have confirmed that striker Andy Robertson will stay with them for the new season. Robertson moved to Grounsell Park from Whitley Bay last season but an injury prevented him making a serious impact at the club.

The Stan have also added another new face to their squad with the signing of young goalkeeper Joe Brooks.
