Two treated by paramedics after fire ravages Walker home

-

THIS is the moment huge flames gutted a family home in Newcastle.

Footage captured outside the home in Beal Terrace in Walker shows fire leaping out of the windows and door of the terraced home.

Three fire engines from Newcastle Central, Byker and Wallsend stations were called to the scene as the fire took hold just before 10pm on Thursday.

Two people were treated by paramedics after escaping from the blaze, but did not need to be taken to hospital.

Firefighters returned to the home on Friday morning, and it has been cordoned off by police.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue service said: “Investigations are still ongoing into the cause of the fire that has significantly damaged the property.”

The front of the home was left blackened, with the ground floor window completely destroyed by the heat of the blaze.

Neighbouring homes have had to leave their windows open in an attempt to clear the smoke.

Fire officers could be seen working inside the fire-damaged home as they try to determine how the massive fire started.

A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 9.55pm to reports of a fire in the St Anthony’s area in Walker.

“We dispatched a rapid response paramedic and three Hazardous Area Response Teams.

“Two patients were treated on the scene and we didn’t take anyone to hospital.”

Just a few hours later, a major fire broke out in Oak Square in Teams, Gateshead.

Nine people were rescued from their flats by firefighters at around 4.20am and four people were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Three people have been arrested by police, who are treating the fire as a suspected arson.
