SQUAD TAKES TRIDENT TITLE AFTER VICTORY OVER AMBLE
THE 23rd annual Hipsburn Trident Football Tournament featured teams from 12 first schools in north Northumberland.
Hipsburn United took the honours with a 4-2 win against Amble First School.
The visitors opened the scoring but were pegged back, the scores remaining level at the interval.
United then opened up a two-goal lead before Amble came back with a second goal.
The tournament, organised by Trident Soccer, has raised thousands of pounds for school funds over the years and the event encompassed tremendous support as boys and girls participated in north Northumberland’s most popular interschool competition.
This year the guest of honour was former Newcastle United chairman Sir John Hall, who presented the awards and addressed the children.
He said: “I was very impressed with the way the boys and girls played and it was a pleasure to attend the event.
“It is good to see youngsters participating in a sporting activity and having such a wonderful time.”
Hipsburn First School head teacher Kevin Maloney said: ”I’ would like to thank Sir John for attending the tournament and meeting the children and making the event such a special occasion.
“I would also like to thank everyone who participated in the tournament and for making the event such an incredible success.
“Finally, a special thanks to Ryan Jobson and the Trident Soccer team for organising and sponsoring the event as well as FA referee Richard Kelley and assistants Brandon Hamilton, Robert Cowan and William Knox.”
Jobson said: “We witnessed something very special and the quality of football played was exceptional.
“I would like to thank Sir John and all the children, parents, officials and staff involved for making this such an outstanding tournament.”
