Board claim win treble in County Cup

DURHAM Cricket Board edged home by 21 runs to make it three wins in three in the ECB County Cup at Barton Town Cricket Club, writes SAM BLACKLOCK.

Durham won the toss and elected to bat, Lincolnshi­re dismissing Lucas Parry for two in the early stages of the innings.

Lincolnshi­re were on top throughout, taking wickets through the innings, but skipper Harry Crawshaw top-scored with 42 backed by 38 from Jack Hutchinson in 53 balls in Durham’s total of 124.

The home side also helped Durham by bowling 45 wides!

Lincolnshi­re were in total control in reply as Ravi Yarwood Paintall scored a quickfire 37 from 18 balls to take them to 40-0 from four overs, while opener Ollie Caswell added 24.

Will Barnham then starred with the ball, bagging 4-26 to reduce Lincolnshr­e to 103-7.

A steady 47 from No 7 Anton McCready from 72 balls, backed by 17 from Adam Whitaker, almost saw Lincolnshi­re home - but skipper Isaac Unsworth picked up 3-42 as Durham secured the win with five overs to go. ■■SOUTH Shields won the Dom Lyons Trophy with victory over Sunderland.

Shields started very brightly, Ben Scott (33) and Sameer Awan (35), putting on 62 runs for the first wicket.

Alex Thompson (25no) and Ewan Jenkins (25), pushed the score up to 160-6.

Sunderland’s opening pair of Joe Defty (35) and Liam Potts (19) added 61 for the first wicket - but the Wearsiders fell short of their target.
