The 15 people worth the most money in the world are all men
T he wealthiest billionaires in the world are still overwhelmingly men, Forbes’ 2018 rich list reveals.
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is worth more than anyone else in the world - a staggering £79.9 billion.
That’s £15.7 billion more than Microsoft entrepreneur Bill Gates who ranks in second place at £64.2 billion.
Old hands Warren Buffet (CEO of holding company Berkshire Hathaway) and Bernard Arnault (CEO of luxury goods company LVMH) sit in third and fourth place respectively. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg rests in a comfortable fifth position - with a net worth of £50.7 billion. Meanwhile, Alice Walton is the highestranking female billionaire - but she doesn’t even make it into the top 15 billionaires in the world.
The Walmart heiress - still worth an impressive £32.8 billion - comes in at 16th place.
The remaining men in the top 10 include Spanish business tycoon and Inditex fashion group founder Amancio Ortega (worth £49.9 billion), business magnate Carlos Slim Helú (£47.9 billion) and brothers Charles and David Koch (worth £42.8 billion each).
Larry Ellison, founder of technology firm Oracle, has the ninth highest worth in the world with a worth of £41.7 billion.
He comes in ahead of Michael Bloomberg (founder of global financial services and mass media firm Bloomberg) at £35.7 billion.
Francoise Bettencourt Meyers heiress of beauty company L’Oreal - is the only other woman to feature in the top 20 people worth the most money in the world.
She ranks in 18th place with a worth of £30.3 billion.
The third woman to make it on on the list is Susanne Klatten - who has holdings in BMW - though she doesn’t even feature in the top 30 billionaires. Worth £17.8 billion, she sits in 32nd position. Collectivelytheworld’sbillionaires are worth a whopping £6.5 trillion, and the 2018 results show there are now a record number of them.
